A Brief History of our City
Anand is a city located in the Anand district of Gujarat state, India. It is world-renowned as the "White City" or "Milk City."Gujarat is the origin of the cooperative movement, but its nurturing home (or "piyar" in Gujarati) is Anand. This city, situated in the fertile Charotar region of Gujarat, is famous globally as the White City/Milk City.Anand is also a major hub for milk and milk products. The Amul dairy, one of India's largest dairies, is located here.Anand is also an important educational centre. Prestigious educational institutions like Sardar Patel University and Anand Agricultural University are located here.Anand also has a rich cultural heritage. Many temples and historical sites are located here, which attract tourists.
In 1830, Kheda district was included as part of Ahmedabad district. In 1833, the administration of both districts was separated. Since then, Kheda district came into existence as an independent district and the administrative system started. First of all, the British Collector Mr. Veeyar was appointed. After the division of Kheda district, Anand district came into existence on 2/10/1997. On that day, the headquarters of Kheda district was moved from Kheda to Nadiad. In history, the people of Kheda district showed their strength in the independence movement and made a significant contribution. As the route of the Dandi March passed through Anand, Gandhiji and his satyagrahis stayed here overnight.
